Grooming with Purpose Hindquarters

Here I show you the techniques used on the hindquarters. In the hindquarters, you have the glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps and adductor muscles. These muscles are the powerhouses that propels them forward, pushes up hills or takes you over a jump. These muscles also create the flexion and extension of the pelvis. For the lumbar of the horse to move properly these muscles need to be functioning well. Doing the cross fiber grooming will help bring circulation to this area and release tightness around the hip joint as well as the attachments at the prominent hip bone where the glutes and obliques attach creating a connection between the barrel and the hind end of the horse. The deeper muscles like the iliopsoas muscles have an even greater impact on lumbosacral mobility allowing for the pelvis to move.
